Choosing the right lighting system within your bathroom is more important than you may think. ‘Task Lighting’ and ‘Recessed Lighting’, which is often mounted above the mirror, can result in unwanted shadows and darkness below the eyes.
This lack of light means a misleading representation of ourselves. Lighting designer, Randall Whitehead, said, “It can visually age you by 10 years”. He went on to say that this form of lighting also hinders common practicalities, “This light is ineffective for shaving or applying makeup”. So go easy on that foundation, the light lies to you.
The position of your lighting, results in a mirage of the truth. But it can also be hazardous; causing slips and falls. Muted or inadequate lighting may not be practical for everyday use, despite its visual appeal.
So what can we do? Whitehead suggests a pair of ‘Sconces’, placed at eye level on adjacent sides of the mirror. This style illuminates the face from multiple angles, vanquishing the dark shadows and evidently proving to be easier to apply makeup, shave and brush one’s teeth. There are many alternatives to better lighting, saving you time and effort in rewiring your entire vanity.
